Description:
The Galecopper Bridge, an important traffic link in the A12 over the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal near Utrecht, underwent a major renovation between 2011 and 2014. The bridge from 1971 was due to intensive use, heavier freight traffic and weather influences to renewal. The aim of the renovation was to strengthen the bridge construction, to extend its lifespan and to improve road safety.

- Strengthening steel support structure
- Replacement of the bridge deck
- Application of new layers of preservation (beam and painting)
- Replacement and modernisation of joints
- Adjustment of guardrails
- Replacing the impositions
- Welding and fitting of insert plates
- Restoration and preservation of troughs
Result:
The bridge is prepared for future traffic load after renovation, with a longer life span of at least 30 years. Thanks to the interventions, the bridge again meets modern safety requirements and traffic standards. Smart planning has limited traffic congestion.
