KREEKRAKBRUG

Project name:

Creek Rock Bridge Renovation

Location:

A58, Zeeland/North Brabant border, Netherlands

Period:

2015

Description:

The Kreekrak Bridge, located in the A58 between Zeeland and North Brabant, is an important bank connection over the Scheldt-Rhine Canal. In 2015, the bridge was renovated to improve constructive safety and significantly extend the lifespan of the bridge. As with the Galecopper Bridge, the steel structure was subject to fatigue and corrosion due to intensive use and weather influences.

List of activities:

  • Strengthening steel support structure
  • Replacement of the bridge deck
  • Application of new layers of preservation (beam and painting)
  • Replacement and modernisation of joints
  • Adjustment of guardrails
  • Replacing the impositions
  • Welding and fitting of insert plates
  • Restoration and preservation of troughs

Result:

Due to the work carried out, the Kreekrak Bridge again meets the applicable heavy traffic tax standards. The construction is permanently protected against corrosion and wear, with an expected lifetime extension of several decades. Traffic could largely continue with minimal nuisance during work.
