Description:
A dedicated renovation was carried out in 2024 at the Mülheimer Brücke in Cologne. This 1951 suspension bridge is essential for both local and regional traffic. The work focused on strengthening and restoring specific parts of the steel structure and lasted only nine weeks. During this short, intensive period, work was focused on components with priority for structural safety.
List of activities:
- Complete replacement of the left tributary Deichbrücke and the right tributary (Rampe)
- Repair and reinforcement of the Strombrücke and Flutbrücke
- Replacement of suspension cables and reinforcement of steel structures
- Installation and welding of new troughs
- Remove old windows and place new ones
- Under-reparation to bridge construction
- Replacing corner supports
Result:
The bridge has been strengthened at critical points and subsequently meets the current technical requirements. Thanks to the compact planning, the impact on traffic and environment was limited.
