Description:
In 2023, AQAR carried out the production of several Shear Keys on behalf of VBSC. These heavy steel structures were intended for the Coleshill rail infrastructure project in the United Kingdom. Production required high welding precision due to limited tolerances on deformation and very specific geometric requirements. The cooperation was in close coordination with VBSC Quality Control and external inspectors.

- Manufacture of:
- 1x Coleshill Single Track Shear Key
- 2x Coleshill Double Track Shear Keys
- Version largely with OP welding (under powder deck welding)
- Manual welding (HA) on hard to reach parts
- Application of welding procedures and pre-warming instructions provided by VBSC
- Assembly of cut, prepared plates (provided by VBSC)
- Close control of welding shrink to respect up to 4 mm deformation in milling zones
- Implementation of NDO (non-destructive testing) on call via VBSC
- Weekly inspections by VBSC QC and external customer QC
- Transport back provided by VBSC
Result:
All components have been successfully produced within the required tolerances, delivered in time and fully approved by both internal and external quality controllers. Production complied with the highest standards for railway structures.
